Overcoming Blockages & Manifesting your true self

by Dr. J Emanuel Hodge

Blockages can be a hindrance to living a fulfilling life. They are the barriers that limit our potential and prevent us from achieving our goals. Blockages can manifest in different ways, such as self-doubt, fear, limiting beliefs, negative self-talk, and physical or emotional trauma. We’re often told “Overcoming blockages requires identifying the root cause” and developing strategies to overcome them.

This is important because it allows us to understand the underlying issues that are holding us back. Without identifying the root cause, we may only be treating the symptoms of the blockage and not addressing the underlying problem.

For example, if someone is experiencing a fear of public speaking, they may try to overcome this by practicing their speech more or using relaxation techniques before speaking. While these strategies may help in the short term, they are unlikely to provide a lasting solution if the root cause of the fear is not addressed. Alternatively, if the fear of public speaking is caused by a lack of confidence, developing strategies to build self-esteem and self-confidence may be necessary.

The types of blockages people experience can vary from person to person. Some common blocks include:

1. Fear – Fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the unknown, and fear of change can all create blockages that prevent us from taking risks and pursuing our dreams.

2. Limiting Beliefs – Negative beliefs about ourselves, our abilities, or our worth can create blockages that prevent us from reaching our full potential.

3. Negative Self-Talk – The way we talk to ourselves can also create blockages. Negative self-talk can lead to self-doubt, low self-esteem, and limited thinking.

4. Emotional Trauma – Past emotional trauma such as abuse, neglect, or abandonment can create blockages that prevent us from forming healthy relationships or pursuing our goals.

6. Physical Trauma – Physical trauma such as injury, illness, or chronic pain can create blockages that limit our mobility, energy, and overall well-being.

7. Conditioning – Negative conditioning from past experiences can create blockages that limit our potential. For example, if we have failed at something in the past, we may develop a fear of trying again.

Blockages can stem from a variety of sources. They can be caused by external factors such as traumatic experiences, negative feedback from others, or societal pressures to conform to certain standards. Blockages can also be self-imposed, such as limiting beliefs or negative self-talk. Our subconscious mind often creates blockages as a way of protecting us from perceived threats. These blockages can be helpful in certain situations, but they can also limit our potential and prevent us from achieving our goals.

One example of how the subconscious mind creates blockages as a way of protecting us is the fear of failure. Many of us have a fear of failure, and this fear can prevent us from taking risks or pursuing our goals. While the fear of failure may seem irrational on the surface, it is often rooted in a deeper fear of rejection or embarrassment.

For example, imagine someone who has always dreamed of starting their own business, but they have a deep-seated fear of failure. This fear may be rooted in a belief that they are not good enough or capable enough to succeed, or it may be tied to an experience where they felt embarrassed or rejected after trying something new.

While the fear of failure may seem like a negative thing, it is actually the subconscious mind’s way of protecting us from the perceived threat of rejection or embarrassment. By avoiding taking risks or trying new things, we can avoid the possibility of failure and the negative emotions that come with it. This protection mechanism can become a blockage that prevents us from achieving our goals and living our best lives.

By addressing the root cause of the fear, we can begin to break through the blockage and move toward our goals with greater confidence and clarity. It is important to note that this process may take time and effort, as we are essentially rewiring our subconscious programming. However, the rewards of overcoming our blockages and achieving our goals are well worth the effort.

Blockages can develop at any point in our lives, from childhood to adulthood. Childhood experiences can shape our beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. Negative experiences such as bullying, neglect, or abuse can create blockages that carry into adulthood. Our experiences as adults can also create blockages, such as traumatic events or negative feedback from others.

Overcoming blockages requires a multi-faceted approach. It involves identifying the root cause of the blockage, developing strategies to address it, and taking action to move past it. Here are some strategies that can help:

  1. Self-reflection and awareness: Start by reflecting on your thoughts and behaviors to identify any patterns or beliefs that may be contributing to the blockage. This could involve journaling, meditation, or talking to a trusted friend or therapist.
  2. Positive affirmations: Create positive affirmations that counteract the negative beliefs or self-talk that may be contributing to the blockage. Repeat these affirmations regularly to reprogram your subconscious mind.
  3. Visualization: Visualize yourself successfully overcoming the blockage and achieving your goals. Imagine how it would feel and the steps you would take to get there.
  4. Action planning: Develop a clear action plan with specific steps to overcome the blockage. This could include breaking down the goal into smaller, achievable tasks or seeking the help of a mentor or coach.
  5. Mindfulness: Practice being present in the moment you are in and letting go of negative thoughts or emotions that may be contributing to the blockage. This could involve practicing mindfulness meditation or other relaxation techniques.
  6. Gratitude: Focus on the positive things in your life and cultivate a sense of gratitude. This can help shift your mindset from one of lack and limitation to one of abundance and possibility.
  7. Self-care: Take care of yourself physically and emotionally by getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.
  8. Accountability: Find someone to hold you accountable for taking action toward overcoming the blockage. This could be a friend, mentor, or coach who can offer support and encouragement.

Remember that overcoming blockages is a process that takes time and effort. It requires a willingness to face our fears and push beyond our comfort zone. With the right mindset and strategies, we can overcome our blockages and manifest our true selves into reality.
